Mouthful - Juice bars

ARDEN’S GARDEN: While you’re probably familiar with this Atlanta-based juice company’s bottled products, its stores are worth the visit. The exclusive juices — such as wheatgrass — are made with a cloth-filtered hydraulic press so the juices don’t lose any of their nutrients by being exposed to air. Hardcore juicing enthusiasts will adore the Grand Slam, a sequence of mini shots — wheatgrass, ginger, lemon and cranberry — with a pineapple chaser. 1117 Euclid Ave. 404-827-0424; and four other metro Atlanta locations. www.ardensgarden.com.

CAFÉ SLUSH AND MARKET: This East Atlanta Village newcomer has an organic juice bar with seating and a fully stocked natural foods market. Grab a freshly pressed shot of wheatgrass, one of the house-designed concoctions, or create your own juice. Juices are made to order from a list of ingredients such as spinach, carrots, apples, lemons, grapes, oranges, celery and beets. A mix of pineapple, ginger and cranberry is full of pep on the palate. The juice bar also does double duty as a lunch counter serving a tidy menu of healthy, homemade fare and a long list of smoothies. 491-F Flat Shoals Ave. 404-525-7587. www.cafeslush.com.

LOTTAFRUTTA: Owner Myrna Pyrez jokingly calls herself a “fruitologist,” and her fruit creations border on inspired. Instead of your basic varieties, Pyrez serves a few wickedly vibrant “exotic fruit drinks.” She scours local markets for the tropical fruits — such as Andean blackberries and passionfruit — then serves it Latin-style as a “Jugo” (water-based) or “Batido” (milk-based) drink. Don’t miss her smoothies and paletas (popsicles), which are made with the same types of brightly flavored fruits. 590-A Auburn Ave. 404-588-0857. www.lottafrutta.com.
