Mouthful - Matzoh ball soup

SOUPER JENNY: Jenny Levinson is Atlanta’s reigning queen of soup. Although the lines can be maddening, the love Levinson infuses into every bite of her soup makes the wait bearable. Her matzoh ball soup, which graces the menu every couple of weeks, is a borrowed recipe from Levinson’s sister-in-law who insists it “can cure any ailment.” The soup is prepared with homemade chicken stock, loads of fresh vegetables and matzoh balls made with matzoh meal, egg, vegetable oil, salt and pepper. 56 E. MARIETTA DINER: This immense Greek diner located on the outskirts of intown Atlanta feels very New York, and is open 24/7 so you can get your fix whenever the craving strikes. The matzoh ball soup has a virtually greaseless broth, large pieces of tender chicken, some vegetables, noodles, and perfectly seasoned and light-as-air matzoh balls. 306 Cobb Parkway South, Marietta. 770-423-9390. www.mariettadiner.net.

GOLDBERG’S BAGELS & DELI: Goldbergs’ matzoh ball soup remains one of Atlanta’s best. The broth is full of chicken flavor, a nice amount of vegetables, curly noodles and matzoh balls that are just dense enough. If you are dining in, the soup is served by the bowl or cup with a helping of crunchy homemade bagel chips. But there are also containers in the refrigerated to-go case if you are taking it home to nurse a loved one – or yourself – back to health. 1272 W. Paces Ferry Road. 404-266-0123. www.goldbergsdeli.net.
