Mouthful - Greek

Athens Pizza Kouzzina A spin-off of the Athens Pizza chain, this family-friendly spot is a Mediterranean oasis in the middle of Gwinnett Place Mall’s concrete jungle. Indulge in the Greek fundamentals here: spanakopita, avgolemono (egg and lemon soup) and braised lamb shanks. Fighting a cold? The garlicky comfort food here should help ease your ailments. 2205 Pleasant Hill Road, Duluth. 770-813-1369.

Kyma Pano Karatassos’ paean to his heritage isn’t just the best Greek restaurant in town, it’s an exquisite, authentic voyage into Mediterranean cuisine. Start with mezze (tapas/appetizers) - pan-fried cheese in ouzo, stuffed grape leaves, wood-grilled octopus and shrimp - and progress to the impeccably fresh fish simply grilled and adorned with lemon and olive oil. Don’t leave without sampling the homemade yogurt with Greek honey and walnuts. 3085 Piedmont Road. 404-262-0702. www.buckheadrestaurants.com/kyma.

Mythos Despite the big white columns and touches of deep blue (in the form of glass light pendants), Mythos is in no way a parody of Greek cuisine. Dishes here have a lusty, rustic integrity. Start with smooth spreads like smoky, sensually earthy melitzanosalata (eggplant) and move on to the grilled fish. For dessert? Galaktoboureko, a phyllo-topped pastry of semolina custard that is intensely buttery. 880 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell. 770-993-0299.

Taverna Plaka It’s Opa Central at this Cheshire Bridge destination - be in the mood for belly dancing when you come here. Your best bet is to get drunk, dance and order mezze. Spicy lamb and pork sausages, fried smelts and saganaki (the sizzling slab o’ cheese) are standouts. If you’re not up for ouzo, the wine list offers some spicy, reasonably priced Greek wines. 2196 Cheshire Bridge Road. 404-636-2284.
