?Press play on Daily Bread’s latest cut, “Til the Sun Burns Out,” again and again and again. You won’t hear the same thing twice. With this latest offering, producer, DJ, and local music lone gun Rhett Whatley crafts a funky excursion into the dark side of Southern blues. The song is densely layered, and steeped in grooves that intersect, blend, and yield wholly new rhythms in a massive instrumental jumble.
?
? On the heels of unleashing “Til the Sun Burns Out,” Whatley took a few minutes to talk about a day in the life.
?
? I think I recognize you from the Beat Battles at Apache Café — from the old Mic Club days.
? Yep, that’s how I started. Guys like D.R.U.G.S., Beats, and Mr. Fish are the ones who first inspired me. DRES is the man, he taught me a lot about hip-hop.
?
? You work mostly as a producer these days, correct?
? I do work as a producer. I also help run a record shop in Marietta called Sweet Melissa Records. It’s a good gig because it gives me access to tons of otherwise off-limits inventory. I’m a crate digger and record collector at heart.

??????
? I haven’t officially produced music for anyone yet. I’ve been in listening sessions on separate occasions with [https://twitter.com/JarrenBenton?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author|Jarren Benton] and Methuzulah, but nothing has come to fruition yet. I’ve been putting out my music as LPs and singles online, much in the style of DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, and the like.
? ??
? Tell me about the records you used to create “Till The Sun Burns Out.”
? “Til The Sun Burns Out” was inspired by early blues recordings. I don’t want to give too many samples away because I pride myself on sample selection. But I threw some Blind Willie Johnson and early blues stuff in there to get the idea going. The song is s loose follow-up to my latest album, The Darkness Before Dawn LP. I’m working hard on another album that will drop this Spring.
?
? When and where are your next shows?
? I’m playing Zen Awakening Festival in Orlando this weekend, and then our schedule is clear for a bit. I perform with a drummer, named Eric Jefferson, and we have been doing all-original sets. No dates officially on the books but we’re looking forward to announcing some dates very soon. I’ll be releasing some more music in the coming weeks also.
