This Friday, photographers Holly Anders and Lyle Owerko will celebrate the opening of respective photography exhibitions at Jackson Fine Art. Both visionary, skilled photographers — who have fine-tuned their own snapshot styles — will each give an artist talk as well at the gallery the following day.

In her work for The Fallen Fawn series, Montana native Andres explores themes such as adolescence, memory, and the female experience, often juxtaposing feminine imagery in a dark or tense setting. An accomplished artist, her work has been seen everywhere from The New York Times magazine and The L.A. Times to ELLE Magazine, Artforum, and more.

?? Photojournalist, photog, and filmmaker Owerko has collabed with big-name brands, corporations, and nonprofits alike. Most notably, a photo of his appeared on TIME’s Sept. 11, 2001 edition. Pieces from his new series, Eagle Hunters, will be on display at the opening, along with photos from his ongoing series The Boombox Project, which was also made into a book in 2010. His works often tell a story in the vein of pop and youths culture and various music genres.

“Holly Andres and Lyle Owerko are two of the most unique and innovative photographers working today,” Jackson Fine Art Gallery Manager Coco Conroy says. “Owerko is a skilled cultural archeologist — his history of the ‘walking boombox’ evokes the sweltering summer of Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing. The narrative of Andres’ The Fallen Fawn perfectly captures the ominous, revelatory nature of adolescent girlhood — recalling a Nancy Drew mystery, or Emma Cline’s The Girls.

The Fallen Fawn and Eagle Hunters, opening reception 6-8 p.m. Fri., July 15. Artist talk and book signing, 11 a.m. Sat., July 16. Jackson Fine Art, 3115 E. Shadowlawn Ave. N.E. jacksonfineart.com.
