Southern Comfort, legendary dive bar where hipsters clinked glasses with truckers, is closing?

Rest your vocal cords for one final round of karaoke

Sunday night could be the very last last call for the no-frills honky tonk haunt

?All good things come to an end, apparently even honky-tonk bars on South Moreland Avenue.
?
? For the last week, a rumor has been circulating that Southern Comfort, the no-frills haunt located among strip clubs, warehouses, and truck stops in Conley, Ga., would host its popular karaoke on Sunday night and then shut its doors for good. If true, it would mean the end of the decades-old institution where ITP hipsters have chugged beers and made friends with longtime regulars and probably made a regret or two.

?
? Tommy Lee, SoCo’s karaoke host who announced the news last night on Facebook, has posted saying he’s been told that after Sunday’s karaoke night the bar would call it quits. He also said staff was working for tips on Thanksgiving night to raise cash in the hopes of keeping the bar open until New Year’s Eve. He’s requesting someone bring a good videocamera to document Sunday night in case the bar does shut down.
?
? CL Music Editor Chad Radford last week reached out to bar owner George Jones to ask about SoCo’s future but has not heard back. And we’ve sent a message to Lee for more info.
?
? Until then, it appears you now have plans for Sunday night, right?
