The Atlanta-based, human rights-focused program, in partnership with <a href=”http://www.humanityinaction.org/” target=”_blank” target=_blank”>Humanity in Action, will be comprised of 30 American and European university students, as well as recent college graduates.

Kicking off in July and running on an annual basis for three years, the John Lewis Fellowship invites the select group of 20 American and 10 European students to a four-week program that will explore “issues of diversity, human rights, and social injustice in the United States,” according to a release from the NCCHR.

“This timely collaboration furthers our mission and highlights the Center’s firm belief that young people have the desire and the ability to formulate solutions to our global challenges,” NCCHR CEO Doug Shipman said in a statement. “The Center will serve as a venue for education and inspiration empowering our Fellows to take what they learn into their communities to create a more just and humane future.”

“The contributions of students in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s proves that young people can play an important role in building a better future for this nation and world community,” he said in a statement. “I hope these fellowships will offer them encouragement and inspiration to answer the urging within that calls them to take action on the issues of human rights and social justice around the globe.”
