Quick Bites: Makan goes all in on craft ramen, Local Three plans expansion, and more

The owners of former Pan-Asian restaurant Makan (130 Clairemont Ave., Suite 100) have rebranded the concept, changing its name to Taiyo Ramen and its menu focus to craft ramen. Taiyo’s menu highlights local and seasonal ingredients through a fall vegetable ramen, Hokkaido-style seafood ramen, duck ramen, a Korean-style beef and kimchi ramen, and more.

The Taqueria del Sol team is planning two new metro Atlanta restaurants with opening dates in 2017. Chef Eddie Hernandez and business partner Mike Klank will open one location of the taqueria chain at Chamblee’s mixed-use Peachtree Crossing development in March. The second is slated or a fall 2017 opening at Larkin on Memorial in Grant Park.

Local Three will undergo a 3,000-square-foot expansion that paperwork suggests will be called War Horse. Owners Ryan Tucker, Chris Hall and Todd Mussman plan for the new space to serve as “a private club area with dining, casual seating and bar,” according to What Now Atlanta.

California-based Vitality Bowls is slated to open its first Georgia location in the Viewpoint condos at 855 Peachtree St. next Thurs., Nov. 10. The health-focused concept specializes in açaí bowls, smoothies, fresh juices, soups, salads, and panini.

Les Dames d’Escoffier’s 16th annual Afternoon in the Country will take place this Sun., Nov. 6, from 1-4 p.m. at Foxhall Resort in Douglasville. Chefs and farmers will create dishes highlighting their talent and the state’s bounty. Proceeds from Afternoon in the Country go toward scholarships and grants that support Georgia women in the culinary, beverage, and hospitality industries.
