Quick Bites: One Flew South names an executive chef, the Cheese Fest cometh, and more

Ponce City Market’s Central Food Hall will host “Make Your Meal: A Celebration of Home Cooks” on Tues., Oct. 18 from 4 to 8 p.m. The event will feature samples of dishes and beverages prepared by PCM’s chefs and bartenders all made using ingredients found at stalls in the Food Hall. Possibilities include Bellina Alimentari’s charcuterie and jams and Minero’s beans and Mixteca salt. Attendees will go home with recipe cards and a market tote bag.



One Flew South has promoted sous chef Jared Hall to executive chef, filling the space left by Duane Nutter, who recently departed to focus on his own projects. Hall, a native of East Point, joined One Flew South when it opened in 2008 and attended Atlanta Technical College and the Culinary Institute of America.

West Midtown redevelopment project Stockyards Atlanta has added an unnamed resto from Charleston, S.C.-based Indigo Road hospitality group. The group already runs Oak Steakhouse and O-Ku Sushi, and their new concept will join the Painted Duck at the intersection of 10th Street and Brady Avenue. The development is expected to open in the first quarter of 2017.

Grabbagreen, an Arizona-based healthy, organic fast food concept, has inked a deal to open three locations in metro Atlanta over the next two years. Though the first store is slated to open in the first quarter of 2017, no leases have been signed, What Now Atlanta reports. Grabbagreen promises “preservative-free, naturally gluten-free, no GMO whole food menu” of hormone- and antibiotic-free proteins, pressed juices, smoothies, hot grains, and cold greens.



The Cheese Fest Atlanta, formerly know as the Atlanta Cheese Festival, will swing into the Georgia Railroad Freight Depot (65 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive S.W.) offering unlimited cheese and artisan food samples on Fri., Sept. 30, from 5 to 10 p.m. Tickets also include one drink, samples of grilled cheese and mac and cheese prepared by local talent, and live music.

Brixx Wood Fired Pizza closed its location at the Avenue East Cobb on Aug. 28. The chain’s Athens location also closed recently, leaving just one open in Peachtree City.
