Another old-timer is biting the dust. A friend lunched at Mexico City Gourmet recently and says it is closing this week.

The Decatur restaurant has been around nearly 30 years and I distinctly recall when it was the only place in town offering anything close to authentic Mexican cooking. That changed with the wave of immigration that swept over Buford Highway. Meanwhile, the food at Mexico City Gourmet declined in quality.

Restaurant business throughout the city is crazy. I ran into the chef-owner of a popular mid-priced restaurant this evening, Tuesday, and he told me that his business is the “deadest” he can remember. Others, however are going gangbusters. The same chef told me he went to Antico Pizza Monday night for the first time and found it was a “madhouse” of customers jostling one another in line and standing over tables awaiting seats.
